Ruminations

You may (or may not) have noticed that I haven't posted since last Wednesday. This fact is due to a combination of busy days, technical difficulties, and feeling a little worn down from just doing too much. It's actually been a good break, though, a space to think and reflect on Atelier, and its direction for the future.

I recalled some of the motivations that I had when I started blogging over a year ago. I wanted every individual to know that they are beautiful. Really. And to be confident in their uniqueness. Oftentimes we sabotage our beauty, by trying to be somebody else or by ignoring the physical completely. I want to encourage and inspire myself and others to go beyond these pitfalls.

I also wanted to introduce every individual to the freedom that is dressing well. And by well, I mean in a way that suits personal coloring, body type, personality, and daily needs. Style is not some magical gnosis for the select few with supermodel proportions or hefty bank accounts.

And in a more ancillary way, I wanted to share a bit of myself and my life, so that you know I'm just a regular person. A person with a husband, and [soon to be] four children. A person on a budget. A person with a biggish nose. A person who has insecurities. A person who likes to eat and drink and live simply and beautifully.

So what's the result of all this ruminating? One conclusion that I have reached is that I want this space to be more interactive. I used to get lots of style questions and emails about miscellaneous things. I think I killed it (in the traditional, negative sense), when I listed "E-Consulting" on my Services page. So, I'm removing that. The best part about this blog is interacting with you. I don't want anyone to hesitate to contact me.

I also want to ask you for post ideas. What do you want to know more about? These can be practical things like how to build a transitional wardrobe, more abstract topics related to style, or some burning question you have about me personally. You can contact me anonymously in the combox, or email me at marytboctor@gmail.com.

And finally, if you like what you see here, please share it. The bigger the community, the richer the dialogue!

Thank you again for reading!

  1. Well, I was just thinking of sending an email but decided to give you some space. I sense some blogging frustration that might be similar to what I feel sometimes. This is not a fashion thing, but I loved our connected over Cook's Illustrated. I think it would be fun to interact throughout the month as we try out those recipes and others. Sort of like a book club, but a cooking magazine club. Is that interesting to you?

  3. I love seeing how you take fashion and make it accessible and easy but I'd love to see a wider range of body types. I know that we talk about things working for different sizes but it's nice to see it in action.

Love your writing! Keep it up.

  4. I'd love to see what you do not simply post-partum but if you plan to nurse then how you address that wardrobe dilemma. I was venting to my big sis about how I was so excited to get into my prematernity clothes but suddenly I found that 3/4 of my closet became off limits. I'm practically back to my same pre pregnancy size but I have so many dresses and tops that are now a no go.

Please leave me a comment. If you don't blog, you may not realize that comments to a blogger are like sunshine to the whole of the photosynthesizing world. What I'm saying is, each comment means a lot! P.S. If you have an email connected to your profile, I'll most likely respond there.
