7 Quick Takes

Today's post is just going to be a good, old fashioned, random quick takes...

1
Here is a burning (in my mind) question for all of you.... Do you want outfit details? I mean, do you want to know what brand each piece is, and where it was purchased? I don't usually give this info, because I want the viewer to process the image as he or she would if we met on the street. I also don't think that brand and/or price necessarily correlate to true style. See my quandary? Please let me know what you, the readers, want!

2
All of you fellow bloggers out there, I want to give you a heads up about a link up that I'm going to be hosting next week. It will be a variation of the Thrifting Challenge that took place in November. All you need to do is write a short post that includes your best tip or trick for successful thrifting and link it up (it can be an older post if it fits the specifications). The post doesn't have to include a pic of a primarily thrifted outfit, but feel free if the spirit moves you!

3
Have you seen what Anna and Hilary are doing for the month of March? Their "Encourage Beauty" campaign is a brilliant idea. Please click on the links above and check it out!

4
As you may have gathered from some previous posts, I am starting my own business as a personal stylist. I am super excited and can't wait to share some changes that will be happening with the blog and for me personally. Stay tuned!

5
Speaking of personal style, have you been following the Budget Wardrobe Building series? Join us for the journey; get started by cleaning out that closet!

6
I just want to say thank you for reading, and following here and/or on Facebook. And thank you for the comments. If you don't blog, you may not realize that comments to a blogger are like sunshine to the whole of the photosynthesizing world.

And finally, on a completely random note, do not ever purchase and/or consume this beer. I know, I know, one should never trust beer in a can this big... I was lured in by the words "high gravity lager," hmm, fascinating, and by the fact that it is brewed in my back yard, Rochester (that's basically Buffalo's backyard, right?). And the $1.29 price tag softly and seductively whispered words of encouragement too, I won't lie. It was utterly awful and I could not drink more than a few ounces of it. You may think that because I usually recommend specialty beers I must be a snob. Not so! Not so! I am an Indiana girl at heart, and I throw back some Old Milwaukees every time I visit home. I also have a no waste rule, but I couldn't follow it for this sickeningly sweet concoction. Consider yourself warned!

  1. Mary, I love your blog. Thank you for starting it up and keeping it going! :)

I agree with you about #1, except when I see something I love on you and wonder if it is still available/would look good on me. So, I guess it doesn't really matter to me.

I do have a question about being a personal stylist, which I'll FB you about. :) I'm so happy for you though! I would totally enlist your services if I were in your area. ;-)

  2. Re: #1, I would be interested IF it's something still available in stores or if you have a link to something similar. Otherwise, yeah, what's the point.
#2, I'll be reading but not participating because (as per #5, which I love) I have been cleaning out my closet and have found that most of my purged items were from thrift stores. I need to learn to be a better thrift-store shopper.
    #4, really excited for you!!

  3. 1. I kind of like the idea of letting it be like we saw you on the street, but I think it's cool if you want to give the brands etc too.
    2. I'm gonna join in on that. Especially because of my garage saleing experiences, which have molded me into the cheapass person I am today. Loud and proud.
    4. So excited for you, Mar. You're gonna be great at it!
    7. dude that is gross. I can tell just by looking at the can. I don't know why exactly, but it just looks like it's disgusting. haha.

  4. I am at the edge of my seat waiting for next weeks Budget Wardrobe building (part 2). And, yes I, for one would like to see brands and where things were purchased. It would help a true beginner like me. :)

  8. I do have a question for you along the lines of the burning question idea, but not about the brands. Spring Break is upon us in the college end, and I am planning on getting several spring dresses during the break ... what colors are hot right now? Specifically, what color combos? I'm thinking along the lines of all the coral that sprang out around September last year and is still around. Are there two or three (or more) colors that you've seen coming on the scene??

    1. Hi Clara! Check out this site. http://www.pantone.com/pages/fcr.aspx?pg=21005&ca=4 Pantone is the leading organization in most things color; the link is for their Spring 2013 color prediction page. Interesting stuff : ) Other than that, I would just say go with what you like and what it is most flattering for your own coloring. Hope that helps!

  9. i've been struggling with the "should i share outfit details or is it pointless" idea too and i think i'd rather know than not just in case i really like something and that something might still be available to buy.
as far as the thrifting challenge/thrifting tips goes, i'm SO EXCITED! :) addicted to thrifting? quite possibly.
love the encourage beauty campaign...this world needs it so desperately.
it's awesome that you're going to be a personal stylist.
and, last but not least, if i liked beer, i'd definitely try that one. but alas, i'm a margarita, sweet wine, kahlua girl. :)

  10. #1 sometimes I literally want to buy the exact thing a person is wearing, so I like to know brands so I can hunt it down.

I have got to clean out my closet!
